Meet Henley! This 6-years-young, 75 lb girl is an absolute gem! Butt scratches, belly rubs, and ear massages are her love language – although car rides, outdoor adventures, and pouncing on toys are also high on her list of “favorite things”. Henley is a great mix of active and calm. She is all about exploring the world and could walk for hours if her people need her to keep up. (She’d probably enjoy jogging, too!) On the other hand, she settles for most of the day while her fosters work from home and is content to nap on the couch or in the yard, occupy herself with a toy, or guard the house from all the neighborhood squirrels! On leash, Henley can get excited about leading the way and needs reminders to not pull – but she’s been great with meeting people, ignoring other dogs, and not reacting to “new” things, like strollers for example. She has even been to a couple of public spots (restaurant and brewery) and did well staying near/under the table with bustling activity around her! While there are no children in her current foster home, we suspect that she would do well as a family dog with older children due to her size. “Goofy” is a big part of Henley’s personality, right alongside “affectionate.” From sleeping upside down with her mouth open, zooming around with a shoe when she can’t find a toy quickly enough (she always gives the shoe back), or giving her fosters “the pout” when she’s ready for more butt scratches, she never fails to brighten the day with a little extra laughter! Like most pitties, Henley can have a bit of a stubborn side – but also has some great house manners! She is respectful of people’s space and food, hasn’t shown any destructive behaviors (unless you count tennis balls), and is content sleeping on a dog bed if she’s not invited up with her humans. Henley has made several dog friends – small and large – and even had a 15 lb Italian greyhound “sleep over” for a few nights at her foster home. While she does have a vendetta against squirrels, she met a dog-savvy cat while indoors and, after some initial sniffing, was content to just hang out in the room with him. This sweet girl is a fantastic companion with a lot of love to give. To meet Henley, fill out an application and a volunteer will be in touch!
