Meet Rusty Emerald - a just over 13 month old Lab/Mountain Cur mix, who weighs 48 pounds (as of 1/27/24). Rusty Emerald and his sister, Lily, were found as strays and were trying to fend for themselves before a wonderful couple scooped them up and came to their rescue. Unfortunately, Rusty somehow broke his leg and had to have his right front leg amputated.

His foster mom shares "Rusty is doing very well and is a fun little guy! He is busy during the day and goes to sleep in the evening around 7 or 8 lying on the couch next to me like a little baby. He would really like another dog or person who would spend time playing with him. None of our dogs want to play as much as he wants to do. So boring! But he is also happy to entertain himself (as you can see in the video). And we are old people and not playing with him enough! :)

Rusty is scared of new people until he understands they are ok. He backs up barking loudly for longer than you would think necessary - but then he settles in once he knows he can trust you. He has been through so much it is understandable and we think will just take time and a lot of patience. Because once he loves you he is all about love and snuggles!!! We think because of this he would be best in a quieter household with teens and above so that there isn't a lot of noise and chaos as he settles in.

He is really a fun dog and I know the perfect family for him is out there somewhere. This boy is quite a gem!"

All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
