Meet Lucy Momma Zest - a 2-3 year old, beautiful Beagle mix, who currently weighs 35 pounds (as of 1/19/25). Lucy Momma Zest has lived her whole life as a stray living within a pack of canine friends behind a Save-a-Lot in Tennessee. Someone noticed she was very pregnant and her rescuers were finally able to trap her and bring her to safety. She came to Massachusetts and gave birth to seven healthy babies who she adored. All of her babies have now all gone to their forever homes, and now it's her turn! Lucy Momma Zest has stopped nursing, gained some weight, and is now ready for a home of her own and learn how to be a dog!

At first, life indoors was a little scary for this sweet girl. But soon she learned to love the comforts of domestic life, like soft beds, regular meals, and the gentle touch of humans who truly cared for her. She especially loved the company of her foster mom’s other animals, including dogs, a lizard, and even a pig!
Lucy is still a shy girl, but once she opens up, she will steal your heart completely. She finds confidence and security in the presence of other dogs, so she must have at least one canine companion (though more would be even better!). She’s also great with cats and even did well with her foster mom’s lizard!
With her gentle spirit, adorable “oopsie” tongue that sticks out when she’s sleepy, and her soft little grumbles of contentment, Lucy is impossible not to love. She’s potty trained and crate trained, and having a crate is essential so she has a safe space to retreat to when she needs comfort.
Lucy is searching for a patient, loving adopter who will give her the time she needs to fully blossom. In return, she’ll give you her quiet devotion, her trust, and a love that’s as deep as her beautiful brown eyes.
Could you be the one to show Lucy that her journey was always meant to lead her home?

Lucy's ideal family will have a dog (or five!) for her to hang with. She loves other dogs of all shapes and sizes. She loves to play with toys, especially when it means wrestling and playing tug-of-war with her doggy friends. Lucy has been great with her foster's other critters - like pigs and lizards (and we have a feeling she'll probably do great with cats!). Lucy still keeps her distance from humans, but does like to be part of the dog pack and will greet people at the door, go outside/inside, take treats, or sleep on the bed with the other dogs. She is HIGHLY food motivated and is doing great taking treats and bones from humans gently. She will happily let the other dogs eat her food, so her foster has been feeding her in the crate.

Lucy LOVES the car, and will gladly be your co-pilot any time - especially if it means a trip to a drive-thru and she happens to get a cheeseburger as a special treat. She'll hang out in the back seat of the car, curled up with the other dogs. She also really enjoys her crate and needs it to be available to her at all times to help her feel safe. Lucy has an adorable overbite which causes her tongue to stick out while she's sleeping and chilling out. For a Beagle, Lucy isn't an incessant barker, but she definitely has a Beagle voice and she will bark at people walking by or bark/howl along with her doggy friends to harmonize. Lucy is 99% housebroken and will whine at the door when she wants to go out.

Lucy's perfect home will have lots of dogs and other animals for her to hang with and take cues from. She needs patient humans who are willing (and excited) to wait for Lucy to evolve at her own pace and come to them. In a short ~8 weeks of foster care as a new mom, Lucy has already come so far and has learned to trust her foster family and gotten a taste for the good life of regular meals and soft dog beds!

Lucy hasn't learned how to walk on a leash yet and she definitely needs a fenced in yard or she'll be a flight risk. Her foster keeps a GPS collar on her just in case. She's easy to pick up and she's getting used to being carted around from house to car, car to house... but she can't be a princess forever!

All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application.
