Hi there! My name is Ben and I'm a 4-year-old, neutered, Shepherd mix that currently weighs about 66lbs. I'm a timid sweetheart that's still learning how to "dog". So far, I'm enjoying my time here at PHS! I'm experiencing a bunch of new things like going for walks, getting cuddles, and making new human and dog friends! Walks and cuddles are my favorite! My PHS volunteer friends say I'm a expert walker! I don't mind the company of other dogs, but I'm not really sure how to play yet. I'm hoping for a patient and loving family preferably with teens and adults only that is prepared to continue teaching me how to be a member of the family. I'm a pretty big boy, so experience with large breed dogs is a plus! Please be sure to bring the entire household, including any resident dogs, so we can get properly acquainted before I join the family. For more information about me, just ask Customer Service about Ben! ID# A959289
I recently spent some time with a PHS Volunteer! Here's how I did:
Ben had a three-hour off-site tour today. Ben didn't seem to understand how to get into my car, but when I got in first, Ben followed me into the back seat. When I tried to reach past him to close the door, he backed out again. We reset outside the car, and this time, I got in first. Ben followed, and I let him pass all the way to the driver’s side so I could close the door. Ben seemed relaxed during the car ride, calmly watching other dogs walk by. Once in my neighborhood, I let Ben lead with his nose as we wandered around. After a few blocks, we circled back to my house, stretched out on the couch, and then rested on the bed. He seemed very relaxed. We took another walk, passing by tennis and soccer summer camps in progress. Ben was well-behaved around many children, some not much taller than the tennis nets. When time ran out, we returned to my car. Ben was hesitant to get into the back seat by himself, so I got in first again, and he followed right behind me. On the ride back, he was very well-behaved.
