From tough times to tail wags, Rocky’s journey is a story of hope and strength!
Meet Rocky - a 1 year old, Bulldog / Mastiff mix, who weighs about 50 pounds (as of 4/2/25). This boy is incredibly resilient and his story will just break your heart. He was a stray puppy that was abandoned in an apartment complex in a low income, small town in the Mississippi Delta. According to residents, he was a friendly little fella that would show up on doorsteps begging for food. As he was growing up, it became apparent that this boy was dealing with skin issues that needed medical attention immediately. It got worse over time (and we will spare you the pictures), but his itchy and enflamed skin became so bad that he was nothing by scabs from the tip of his nose all the way to the end of his tail. He was infested with Sarcoptic Mange mites.
By the time one of the residents FINALLY took pity on him and called ARRF, Rocky was painful to look at...it absolutely broke your heart. While we will never understand how this could have happened, we are grateful to the person who did finally make that call and get him the help he deserved.
Once in ARRF’s hands, Rocky was taken immediately to our veterinarian where he spent the next several months in their care. He was treated for the most severe case of Sarcoptic Mange and the underlying infection his body was fighting. Thanks to generous supporters, donations were raised to pay for his care until he was well enough to be in a foster home. We have been able to continue his care, and see his beautiful, brindle coat return! This once frightening looking boy, has become a very handsome young man with the most adorable little ears you have ever seen. His back legs are still a little bit weak from malnutrition, but with the proper nutrition and a home where he can run and play, he will gain his strength back. He is getting stronger each and every day!
While this boy has previously been completely failed by mankind, he is still so eager to please and SO appreciative of any affection that he is given! This sweet boy knows what it feels like to be pushed aside and chased away because he was thought to be ugly. We would like to see him being able to run and play to his heart’s content. He needs some work on his manners since he's never lived indoors before, but as we mentioned he is eager to please and would absolutely love the quality time with anyone who will spend working with him. He loves to play and frolic with other pups and loves to play with children. He loves meeting new people and is just always so happy. He is a smart boy, and is quick study and loves to please his people. If you make him a part of your family, you will, truly, have the best, most devoted friend for life!
All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.
