Meet Cahaba - a 4 year old, Newfoundland, who weighs about 114 pounds (as of 11/26/25). This gentle giant was surrendered to us in Tennessee by her previous family as they were no long able to care for her due to declining medical conditions in their family.

Her foster shares: "Cahaba is very loyal, lazy, and even tempered. At four years old, Cahaba is settled into the Newfie lifestyle and enjoys lounging with the humans. While not frequently on a leash, Cahaba’s favorite walk is to load up in the car for a drive! Cahaba has been around cats, dogs, and children. She is very calm with children and cats and prefers to socialize with larger dogs. She would be fantastic in a home as a solo pet or with a more settled dog of a similar age and size. Cahaba is so eager to love and will give you big puppy dog eyes for extra treats. She likes both her alone time and time with family. Although not the most athletic, Cahaba enjoys short bursts of play particularly if you’re throwing a ball for her and particularly if it’s in the cold or snow. She is very intuitive and always knows when you need an extra cuddle and will happily sit in your lap to give it to you. Cahaba is such a sweet, fluff of a girl and is the perfect addition for a settled family ready to give a big dog love!"

All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.

Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
