Meet Mila - a 19 week old, Australian Cattle / Heeler mix, who weighs about 15 pounds (as of 10/7/25). Mila was found as a stray in Puerto Rico. She was found with her sister on the side of the road by tourists who were visiting. The tourists couldn't believe that these young puppies had been abandoned in such a dangerous area and brought them back to their AirBnB for a few days before we met them at the airport.

Her foster shares: Mila is doing geat! She is a sweet and spunky little pup who has quickly become the queen of our household.

She is an energetic gal who loves to play with toys - she’ll go through the entire toy bin before she even slows down a little. And then the zoomies begin! She loves her people and doesn’t leave our sides all day, especially if there’s food in sight (or earshot).

We call her our little bunny because she jumps about a foot in the air any time she gets excited, which is primarily when the fridge opens, we’re cooking, or she hears her food bag shaking. To that end, she’s highly food-motivated and a fast learner - she’s already got “sit” and “paw” commands down. She’s also a great cuddler - once she finally decides to settle down - and loves to plop herself on top of your chest, legs, or wherever else she can squeeze onto her human.

She’s great on walks but needs to learn to walk beside her person, not back and forth in front of them. She loves to sniff anything and everything! I have noticed she seems to get a bit spooked by loud noises from traffic, but otherwise she’s very confident and curious on walks.

She’s doing really well with crate training - barely makes a peep, sleeps through the night, and has had no accidents in there so far! She’s not quite as far along with house training but we’re working on it. Her new family will need to continue with positive training to housebreak her.

She loves to play with her big sister (a 7 year-old pittie mix, Rosie) - particularly wrestling and tug - and her favorite toys are of course anything that Rosie has. She’s also very good at entertaining herself though when Rosie is not interested in playing, so I think she’d do okay either as an only dog or with an older sibling to help continue to teach her how to be a dog and further build her confidence.

Mila has an amazing personality! She's sweet, playful, sociable and absolutely adorable - just look at her ears! She loves snoozing in her fluffy dog bed, playing with her friends, or snuggling with her humans. She'd love to find a family who has time to walk her and bring her on adventures and has the patience to train her since she's still young. She'd be great in any type of family and would love to find a home that has a big yard where she can roam freely when she's an adult!

She is the perfect combination of fun, energetic, loving, and sweet! She is quite a gem!!

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.

Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
