Meet Louie - a 9 1/2 month old, Shepherd / Boxer mix, who weighed approx. 57 lbs as of 8/14/25. Louie was found along side a rural road in Tennessee. He was so scared and worried that as soon as his rescuers stopped and picked him up, he fell asleep on their lap IMMEDIATELY in the car! We're so happy we were able to save him and will be able to help him find a home where he will be loved unconditionally.
UPDATE from her foster mom: Oh my goodness, this big boy is such a LOVE! Louie is the happiest pup and loves saying hi to everyone he meets- people and dogs included! He is most content when he’s around people, and will happily sit by your feet while you work. He has become best buds with our resident dog and is learning so much from watching our dog play, walk on the leash, and be a dog!
Louie will be such an incredible addition to a family or someone who can teach him how much fun life can be. He would benefit from a resident dog to learn from, but as long as he keeps getting socialized with other dogs he will learn to be the best boy..
Louie is still learning how big he is and is adorably clumsy which means he might need some teaching on how to be gentle with little kids. He is also learning his manners, how to walk on a leash (although is doing great following the lead of our resident dog), and is working on mastering his house training. He wants to please his people so he will learn quickly! Right now he does best with going potty off the leash, so a fenced in yard is a big plus. He is working on crate training and he can be a bit sad when he is first left alone, but he settles quickly and sleeps through the night!
I can’t wait to see this boy find his forever family- he is going to make them so happy!
His Southern foster shares: "Louie is a young pup who is very friendly, and makes friends everywhere he goes! He is SO happy whenever he is around his humans, and his eyes light up. He would love a family that is home a lot - or he could go to doggie daycare if not. He walks well on a leash for being a young pup (take a look at his videos!). He is still a baby, and we are working on crate training because he does get sad when he's not with his humans. We aren't sure of his history with kids but he is such a love bug (and young), we think he would be just fine with kids. He might accidentally knock over toddlers based on his size and energy - but never on purpose. He loves his humans unconditionally and will make a person or family SO happy! This boy has a special place in my heart!"
All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.
Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
