Meet Lucy! This sweet, 2-3-year-old Jack Russell Terrier mix (20-25 lbs as of 5/23/25) has already been through so much, but she’s still waiting for the one thing she deserves most—a family of her own.

Meet Lucy – A Gentle Soul Ready for Her Second Chance

Lucy has been in foster care since February, and we can’t figure out why she keeps getting overlooked. This sweet girl has come such a long way—from scared and shut down to affectionate, curious, and loyal.

Out of the nearly 40 dogs her foster family has welcomed, Lucy holds a truly special place in their hearts.

Lucy was rescued in Tennessee while pregnant, living behind a grocery store with a pack of strays. She’s believed to have had four litters and was an incredible, loving mom to her final litter in foster care. Now it’s her turn to be someone’s baby.

She thrives with other dogs and does great with cats, too. Her favorite part of the day? Walks! It’s when she truly comes alive—tail wagging, nose to the ground, soaking in the world around her. She also loves romping around a fenced-in yard with her doggy friends and curling up for naps with her people or her pack.

Lucy is still on the timid side, especially with new people, and tends to bond more quickly with women. She’s not aggressive toward men—just a little unsure at first. With patience and kindness, she warms up beautifully and becomes such a sweet, loyal girl.

The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
