Meet Joni - a 3 year old, Lab / Mountain Cur mix, who weighs approx. 45-50 pounds (as of 7/15/25). This sweet girl was found as a stray, and is looking for a forever family to call her own!
Her foster shares: Joni is a high-energy love muffin who loves cuddling with her humans and keeping them company day and night!
Joni’s ability to walk nicely on a leash is steadily improving. She now spends most of her walks with a nice slack leash, and has greatly improved being less distracted by nearby squirrels and rabbits. Joni has also been learning a few basic commands, like sit, stay, come, and down, and is working on leave it. She is housebroken and is very good about letting us know if she needs to go out for a bathroom break.
Joni loves to play with humans or by herself. Almost every day, she’ll walk up to each of us with a toy in her mouth to play tug-of-war or fetch. Even when Joni is off on her own, her ability to self-entertain with toys is impressive and adorable to watch. She especially loves toys with squeakers, and rope toys to play tug of war.
Having a fenced-in yard would be a huge bonus for Joni, as she loves burning off some of her energy playing fetch and enjoys being off-leash to explore sights and smells.
It might be helpful for Joni to be fostered with a medium or large chill dog who doesn’t mind an enthusiastic housemate.
All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.
Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
