Conqueror of treats, ruler of naps—long live Floki!
Meet Floki - a 7 month old, Australian Shepherd mix, who weighs 40 pounds (as of 6/16/25).
UPDATE from his northern foster mom: Floki is the sweetest pup. He is so well behaved and chill - especially for a puppy. He is extremely adaptable. He is doing great with my two bigger and sometimes grouchy senior dogs. Very respectful and calm and does love it if he can get them engaged in a chase. Floki is very treat motivated and will sit, lay down and stay if a treat is involved! He rides really well in the car. He also enjoyed riding in a boat! Leash walking is a work in progress - mainly because he very much wants to say hello to every human and dog he sees. Was very gentle meeting a toddler in a stroller. His ears perk up when he hears a kid's voice and will stop walking and wait for them to pass by so he can get some attention! He seems to be potty trained - no accidents since I have had him. Still learning the doggie door but he's a clever little guy so I have no doubt he will pick it up quickly. Not a big barker - he will respond if the neighbors dogs bark and like a true Aussie he doesn't appreciate the vacuum. He loves to occupy himself with toys and has fun rummaging around in the bin to find the best ones. He wants to be with his people - loves to follow me around the house. Oh and he loves to chase butterflies. He is just happy all the time and a good, good boy!
Floki is crate trained, house trained, and ok on the leash. Whoever is lucky enough to adopt this boy, just know - he isn't very helpful when it comes to cleaning because he isn't a fan of vacuums or brooms! He is well socialized and does great with other pups, and loves meeting new humans, and is great with kids. good with other dogs and likes all people. Floki would love to find an active family who will bring him on adventures. We know he is going to make a wonderful family member!"
All dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered at the time of adoption. All dogs require professional training to become the best family member they can be.

PLEASE READ: If a dog is listed, then s/he is currently available for adoption. Their information is correct to the best of our abilities and the information we have been given as of the day of posting. From time to time we receive new information/photos of a dog and we do recreate their listing, which means their old listing link will no longer be valid. If you are considering a dog but don't apply right away please make sure to search for the dog by name if the link you have no longer works.
Please note, GDRNE does not guarantee the breed of any dog or puppy unless stated that we have run DNA. All breeds listed are educated estimates. Note that if the dog is listed as an "Out of town pet" there are NOT additional transport fees - it is included in our adoption fee Our dogs are rescued from various situations. It is most likely that both their parents were strays and even if not, mixes of some sort and that their grandparents were mixes as well. The dog may have some genetic material of an American Staffordshire Terrier (pit bull). The dogs are usually mixes of many breeds, making them a breed all their own - a True and adorable American MUTT. If you are interested in this dog, you must submit an application. Great Dog is not a shelter so there is no building you can visit. Our dogs live in private foster homes until adopted.
